Reply received from Born Free! But no smiles on my face today. The Chevy Chassis – well, it is on hold due to a strike by the axle company. The projected April arrival of the chassis came and went.

I want a Born Free and I want it on a Chevy Chassis. I do not want to settle. Ms. Safety, my mind’s Doberman, says wait it out.

  • Currently Born Free is the only manufacturer of Class C RVs that holds 5 Star safety ratings on all of their current models.
  • Born Free has a three bar safety cage built around their RVs.

I want a Born Free. I do not want to settle. Ms. Quality Control, my mind’s Afghan Hound, says just make sure you buy a Born Free!

  • The finishing work is beautiful.
  • The pieces fit together well.
  • The factory backs their products and makes changes that make it fit your needs.

I want a Born Free. I want it on a Chevy Chassis. I do not want to settle. Ms. Impatience, my mind’s Mongrel, says lets just get one on the other chassis, I want to play now!

I won’t bother responding to the last one, y’all already know all about impatience and the love of playing!

I rethought it. If I don’t take the next small step, at least by opening a dialog with the RV manufacturer, it is the same as telling the Universe, “I just don’t care if I ever get it,” the exact opposite of what we feel.  I already held back long enough. So, I emailed Born Free tonight to ask a few questions. Yes, it is a small step, but it is movement in the right direction.

That said, it is not the first step we have taken toward changing our lifestyle.  We have (don’t laugh!):

  • Created several blogs, although this definitely needs a new title to be our RV blog
  • Chosen to buy Dr. RV’s maintenance DVDs, since Leon is mechanical by nature
  • Did our first downsizing when we left Washington and are mentally prepared to further downsize
  • Know which  insurance agencies we want to approach first
  • Already  have the crockpots, tiny hand vacuum,  and his French Press, and other necessities
  • Have a camera, a laptop, and Verizon Broadband Wireless, and cell phones – my necessities!
  • Already bank and pay bills online
  • Have sleeping bags for those cold nights with no propane or electric
  • Have started putting our photos and important papers into the computer to lessen weight in the RV
  • Have emergency triangles, florescent vests, flashlights, fire extinguisher, and an extra smoke/carbon monoxide alarm

I could keep going with the little ways we have prepared… but someone stop me!

We, also have taken over the years: first aid and CPR classes — and C.E.R..T. certification… and though I know Leon remembers it well enough to put to use in an emergency, I’m not so sure I remember much of it, though I had to have retained some of it! Right? And I still have the C.E.R.T. book.

So, we are preparing so that when the time comes we can focus on learning “how to RV” –  we won’t have to learn how to relax, we know how to do that part!

No matter what our dreams are, no matter if they are small dreams, temporary dreams, or humongous dreams, for most of us, there are times they seem impossible. It may be merely a shadow of doubt, or a full scale attack on our emotions, but it happens. Even when our now dreams are closer or we have succeeded at prior dreams, it weighs us down.

I did not contact Born Free yet. I know many would say, just do it, the money will come… I know, but the house is still hanging out by itself, allowing us to throw our money away on a house that stands ignored, so to speak. So, lack of sleep and frustration leads me back to my poetry. It is National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo), after all.

So, even as I lament one dream that remains not yet lived, I live another: my poetry and blog dreams are alive and kicking!

Relegated Memories

Her mind wanders past memories
of smiles worn, laughter shared,
past trips planned and dreams made
to stop on what-if-not

a dreary place where laughter curdles,
smiles sag like clothes too big
for a single body to fill,
and dreams fade, corners bend,
edges tatter -

Unfit for keeping in mind’s forefront,
she relegates them to rot
in desperation’s pile,
saved for the distant moment

when enough.becomes.enough

and self-preservation
lights the darkened corner
just enough
to.read.between

faded lines of dreams

… yet miles away. I am starting the email conversation with Born Free today! Previous readers will know I have a list of little tweaks and changes and we want it on the Chevy chassis rather than the Ford.  I do have my combo desk/guest bed designed in my head now.  Just have to get Leon to draw it so I can show them once we are ready to sign the papers.  He can build most of it if need be, but I know he would much prefer they do. So, we will just see.

Still waiting for our house to sell, but are moving from our leased apartment in May, hopefully to rent our son’s home, no lease required with room to put our little 24RB while waiting for it’s annual long trip cross country to Washington for fun and back to Florida for work. And then there are its future “Get the heck out of dodge, there is yet another hurricane on its way” shorter trips.

We are getting there… just behind schedule.

While trying to rename our RV blog from RV Poetry to something that would not scare away non-poets, I reread my short poem, Destination Unknown, found in it’s entirety here. I had remarked on the post, Rvers many days travel to unknown places, yet they remain home in their hearts.

Today I took some exception to it. The words, “remain home in their hearts”, as most of you realize, is referring to home being where your heart is – and I don’t dispute that. However, in reading RVer blogs and meeting a few RVers at shows, I concluded many RVers do not just “remain home in their hearts” — they extend their homes outside of themselves to let others in.

Think of it almost as a mother’s love swelling to encompass more and more children or an animal lover’s heart swelling to bring in more and more animals. The world becomes the RVers home and extended family.

It is not that other people are not capable of doing that or don’t do it, it is that it appears easier for an RVer to do it than a non-RVer.

Will I find that true once we get out there? Perhaps. Perhaps not

No Instructions Needed

hello how are you I see you are from there do you have this or that yes I do may I borrow it of course and let me help you do it you don’t need to do that no problem at all

and so deed is done and relationship begun no need to say just pass on the kindness for it will just automatically be done Rvers are like that – and bloggers, too.
