While here, it is the calm before the next storm, North of us Tropical Storm Hanna darkens the sky. And I say that both because it may well be the calm before Hurricane Ike hits us with fury and because the calm I felt as I saw the changed wave patterns of our beach was incredible.
Looking away from Hanna the dark sky becomes merely gray.
The calm farther out is deceptive as the water then swells and breaks in long low tubes, not a sight I get to see often. In these photos the wind is blowing from shore toward the ocean rather than our normal winds.
It appears we have lost a bit of our beach. Leon said in so many words, that is merely nature taking back what she gave…
This is Florida, and despite the gray skies and the fact we were standing on the third floor covered walkway using the iPhone to grab a quick photo, we were nearly blinded by the glare.
My eyes are sensitive and still haven’t recovered from our five minute walk toward the ocean… hopefully my new transitional lenses (on order) will help make up for those times I forget my dark glasses.
I still cannot get over how nature can be the root of both extreme beauty and devastation….

Stay safe! Those things look dangerous :-/
TCs last blog post..Ocean front property in Oregon
TC, they are dangerous, I am so glad they have skirted us, but wish they would go where no one is — or just fizzle their bad selves out.
Hey Marcia,
Just wanted you to know I stopped by to take a look at your latest blogs. It’s all good stuff. I’m hoping you two are able to get your RV soon. Who knows, you might need it to travel back and forth from Texas. haha. This is a crazy business we are all in, but a great one at that. Anyways, I think it is great that you will soon be fulfilling your dreams and be able to travel the world and see wonderful, beautiful things.
Thanks, Susannah, on both accounts! You’ve lived there before, should be fun to see how much it has changed (overall, I mean, not the damage, that’s never fun) Crazy business, but a great one, Leon and I both agree! You may need the RV, too, though, just in case you two get tired of flying back and forth. Besides, you can take Bella in the RV!
Yes, you are right! We might need one. However, I actually think Nigel and I will be split up a lot over the next few months if we are going to be moving. I can’t really imagine driving an RV by myself with Bella. haha. I know I could do it but I would probably wreck it just trying to park. I’m not used to such a long car. We were just thinking about how lucky we were tonight, with all of us living or working in the same area for now. With my parents moving down hopefully as well, I couldn’t be happier. We are truly blessed! I moved away so young that I don’t remember that much (I think I was about 11) but I do know that the people there are wonderful. Not country but southern, kind but not fake……..so yes, if that is where we end up…..I will definitely be happy.
