RV Poetry

Because my laptop is STILL trying to back itself up the first time, though it is now speeding by comparison to before (good), I cannot post the photos I had planned for today’s Only the Good Friday, Shelly’s attempt to drag us gently toward seeing the good. So, I’m just going to link to a Halloween photo and mention how gorgeous the weather was earlier. (GOOD!!!)

And remind you simply: NaNoWriMo starts at midnight tonight. Jump in and try it. So what if you didn’t plan out your story line or your characters. Who cares, it is more about just letting words flow. (GOOD!) You KNOW you have 50,000 words in you that want to come out in November. I’m toying with doing it again, though I’m doubting the thrill will be as great, but I know what that is really: the fear I won’t think of anything to write; the fear my computer will be fixed and I will have to catch up on all that work it caused me to put off; the fear I will get lost in my words and not do the accounting I am behind on for reasons other than the computer…

STOP! Those are all valid reasons. But today is about finding the good — and it is good I can see their validity. But the true good lies in that I will squeeze those things in AND start another novel. The true good lies in that I will allow my tense self to relax and do something for me, just me, not Leon, not the business, not the world. This one is for me, and we all need to do something for ourselves occasionally.

And speaking of good, Leon supports me in my craziness, and I support him in his. Why not encourage your loved ones and friends to spend a bit of time doing something for themselves for a change? Now that is truly good!

Happy Halloween! Click here to see our son’s first Halloween costume, he’s not so happy at that moment because he had just gotten stitches in his face…. but he was smiling later. It turned into a GOOD day.

No exaggeration: Over FIVE hours on the phone with the Apple Product Specialist today.  We did different tests (plus a few the same). He referred it (again) to an engineer.  We thought we had a temporary fix, but it didn’t solve it!

My iphone battery actually died to the point I had to plug it in a few minutes before I could even use it plugged in.  The tech and I had several emails back and forth after that, and he sent me directions for a couple more “tests”. That five hours was on my cell phone, guess Leon will have to use the office phone more often this billing period so we don’t go over our minutes. And my arm fell asleep from holding the phone and trying to type with the other hand so long. (Go ahead, laugh!)

I did learn one new thing today,  Apple is having some kind of problem with .pdf files and the software Apple uses to open and read them, Preview. They are working on it. He even had me download Adobe for Mac and open them with that, some open, some hang up the computer.  

It seems, on my computer to revolve mostly around my encrypted .dmg files (images), which are mounted and unmounted (No, I don’t understand exactly how, just know the term.) Of course, most of the files I put in them are pdf files. Figures, doesn’t it? I try to be security conscious… and …..

What is so freaky is it is not always the same file within the folder that hangs up.  Today, of course, it decided to be different, and two files hung up most of the time… tonight, those files worked and other ones hung up…. I am so far behind on helping Leon stay caught up. I’ve been fighting this off and on for well over a month…

My personal laptop, that I have been trying to do an initial backup on for the second time, stuck at 19.22 GB for nearly 24 hours now… no error, just not moving. I started that backup Thursday at 11:00 a.m. It is now Tuesday night. I wonder if it is not all related – especially since I put my .dmg files on it while I took the other computer to the store to ‘get fixed’. Ay yi yi yi!

Apple, when they are/were working — AWESOME, but when not, may as well be a PC — except – for the most part I have had people really trying to help  - and being pleasant about it.

Maybe the engineers will have an answer next week….

Hey, but it was GORGEOUS today, crisp, middle fifties this morning, cool all day long. Hooray! And to be in the forties in the morning. Oh yeah!

People are cruel. It is proven somewhere every day if we are looking for it, or turn our heads in the wrong direction, or open our ears, or turn on our instincts. Other days it is just right there in the open for the world to see. Some have always been, some will always be. Such a shame those people will never know how cool it is, how cool it feels, to be kind. Such a shame.

I would love to believe in humanity as a whole coming together and cruelty getting left behind.  I still hope for it, I still wish for it, I still envision it. But, the older I get the harder it is to see that vision. Such a shame.

I just felt the need to go on record. Yes, I’ve noticed; no, I don’t have a magic wand to fix it…. But that does NOT mean I am not still looking for it.

For those who work M-F, it’s obviously a potentially good day since the weekend follows. I’m mostly retired, so today I played almost exclusively. GOOD!  I did a few token things for Leon, and (that sounds so awful)… 

I “studied” applications for my iPhone. That sounds like work, too, doesn’t it? But it is not when you are having fun doing it. Good! As a result of this ‘study’ and the resulting downloads:

• I can now tap only a few buttons and speak an address or a business name rather than type it all in. I wouldn’t recommend either driving, you then have to look to see what it thought you said and choose.  Had I followed the directions to Starbucks without looking at the city it thought I said, It would have been a long five hour drive rather than just five minutes. Although, who knows what I might have discovered on the way.  It is the journey that counts, right? GOOD!  And gas is cheaper right? So it would have been cheaper than had I tried it last week, right? Good.
• I can now test my brain, also for free (don’t count the cost of the phone, data plan, and plan minutes, of course!). I found out how slow I am at deciding if the blank in “9 blank 8=1″ is a +, -. *, /… among other things, but then, I can always practice (again, sounds like work, except when I want to do it) I will improve! GOOD!
• I can now make my photos look different, again for free, not counting those aforementioned costs. I can make any person look horrid by one button! Good! (Shame on me for saying that, but it is Good that I can get my frustrations out by simply touching a button or two and then deleting it once my kind nature catches up, right? A lot better than mouthing off, I think. Good!

Irritating: Back up not working properly on my Macbook — taking so many times longer than it should they suggested I take it in for tests, duh. That is why I was trying to back it up.

Frustrating: IMac STILL not returned from Apple geniuses. One week last Wednesday, told on Thursday: third in line, a good thing, would be ready Saturday night by closing. Still not shown ready on line and no phone call. Yes, they are short handed. Yes, I am short-tempered by now.

Good: Cool air has finally arrived, for now. HOORAY!

Great: (in minor scheme of things) Leon bought me a present yesterday, an AeroGarden Space Saver 6 after reading you can use your own seeds if you prefer. It came with seed pods for herbs, Leon bought lettuce pods, too. Now, I have a well-deserved rep around the house for killing all herbs in pots, even after Leon helped me build a trio of pots when we lived down here before. So, wish me luck! After all, this was, to a point an impulse buy, we knew we wanted one, but the models have slightly different technology, and this one was where we happened to be. This one has air pump oxygenation, another has water pump oxygenation, one has 24 hour light capability, and so on.
