The blinds are blowing in the cool wind, Leon is putting our new small cabinets together for me to stuff with my books and crafts and accounting. The front room of the condo is finally arranged the way we both want it, only art work to go.

And, today is November 1, 2008, the first day of my second attempt at 50,000 words in a month.

I love NaNoWriMo, in part, because it gives me an excuse to write something other than poetry. I don’t have to share it with anyone, not that I haven’t wanted to share sections of my 2006 attempt, there are parts of that I was wonderfully surprised at. They make me smile to this day. That alone was worth the effort, but it was an incredibly awesome experience: you know, the journey is where life really shows its glory. So, any afterglow was/is/will be like winning a lottery.

But, the thrill was that characters made an appearance on the keyboard, that they were sometimes quite clever, that they lived in my mind and honored me by making an appearance, that I was not let down.

Tonight, I sat at Leon’s laptop in an attempt to start this year’s 50,000 words. I had a title, “Why Don’t Washing Machines Beep” – nothing else. As with poetry prompts, words came out: not many, nothing brilliant, but the connection was made with my Muse, my Subconscious, my inner self — whatever you choose to call it. That alone made me smile, grin, and dare to hope that it will continue. So, to be different, each time I write, I will post only one or two sentences I wrote that day… No set up, no connections, just the fun of posting a sentence or two as a future memory. It will be a reminder that my Muse made her presence known when I was stressed over work and misbehaving computers.

Hopefully, yours is visiting, you as well. Enjoy the journey. I’m heading back to MeeAugraphie to post my first couple of sentences. It’s gonna be a fun month for those of us participating.
