Shame on… I’m just saying.

Hello out there! Can you hear me?

There is no shame in needing help.
There is no shame in asking for help.

But there is shame in letting your family go hungry because you won’t ask for help. I sure hope there are none of you caught up in that frame of mind, though I heard there are.

That school of thought is dangerous. Yes, I know it is easy to get into. Perhaps, they are confusing it with being ashamed when they have done something wrong. But it is not wrong to ask for help, it is right.

Please, don’t be caught up in backward thinking. ‘Cause not only can it hurt your family physically, you are just passing the rumor forward. And it is GOOD we are supposed to pass forward.

There are few people in this country that have not needed help of some kind at some time in their lives. And those that haven’t most likely will some time.

Who the heck started that backward thought pattern anyway? And why did so many people buy into it.

That’s as crummy as thinking someone that puts in 8 hours cooking greasy hamburgers or empties trash is not working any more or less harder than someone selling stock. Effort is effort — and any job takes effort.

I’m just saying. It is how I feel, it is what I believe, it is something I would love to see changed.

And yeah, I know some people perpetuate that rumor when they are asked to help someone. Seen it… they are the ones to be ashamed. Don’t buy into it, y’all, please.

Good words. I have been struggling (but slowly learning) to ask for help when I need it. It hasn’t been easy for a strong, independent woman like me (who also has a huge ego! Lol) I am accustomed to being the one that others turn to for help. It has been so beautiful to see the joy that my asking for help has brought to others. It has assisted me in this difficult journey.

Thorne, I’m sorry it has been a difficult journey, but it is exciting to hear someone else has recognized the joy that comes in others when they have been asked for or been able to help someone. – MMB
