Yesterday was the end of the second week of my foray into growing lettuce. All six pods have grown so much! The spots that you cannot see well are the beginnings of the deep red, I hope! Two fertilizer tablets added and water topped off. That’s it.

However, I did notice moisture in all the wrapped fertilizer tablets and called today, before adding them. Customer service assured me they were fine, unless they start dissolving, but they offered to ship me new ones. She, also, mentioned that since we live in Florida, we might want to use distilled water rather than tap, due to the concentration of minerals. For now, we will use the tap water. It will be a good comparison for next time.

So, we have lettuce, tiny little plants, that is. We just planted it Sunday and we were able to take off the clear plastic cups that are placed until the shoots come up. I put one back on for the photo. (Excuse the glare)

The one negative is that the grow light bulbs, in theory, have to be replaced every 6 months. I almost took it back, but weighed buying produce shipped for potentially hundreds of miles against it, and kept it. The timer on the light however, we are having issues with and will try to reset it tonight. I hope this is a success, for we want to do herbs next. I can see this could become an obsession much as gardening is for some people, especially since it is ridiculously easy to do. Now, to remember to put the fertilizer tablets in two weeks from this past Sunday.
