Please note: Shelly’s server is down, so I cannot get a couple of links, I need to properly do this post, but I wanted y’all to know the results, because we are all so excited. I will update them later today or tomorrow!)

An idea cannot become a reality unless people put it in place. And, though one person can make a difference, it takes others to make that difference affect many. A group of Vancouver photographers began a movement to donate to their local food banks, Cans for Comments on their websites/blogs.

As most of you have already read, Shelly at ThisEclecticLife.com saw it and could not resist doing her part. I played tag along the last two days and offered to match her can numbers and comments on my blog, since I didn’t have as large a following. She, her usual generous self, offered to match mine as well. She found two other non-bloggers to match her total donation – and I approached our son and daughter-in-law to both match my total donation…

It probably seemed a miniscule thing at the time.

Not now!

SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY CANS. That is a lot of cans. That is 360 donated to a food bank in TEXAS and 360 donated to a food bank in FLORIDA. That is just because of your comments on Shelly’s blogs and my blogs. That does not count the many others who have donated cans from comments on their blogs!

This is people working together. This is community. This is friends. This is family. Community is family; family is community.

Thank you to every single one of you involved in any way. It wouldn’t have gotten done without you, especially on my end… I procrastinate, even, at times, on giving. You helped me force my hand. Pictures will follow the coming week! You will see your results.

This means a lot fewer hungry tummies.

Man, it is a great day! Let’s do this again!

On Only the Good Friday, Shelly is trying to spread good feelings and good thoughts throughout. She is not the only one. I had a post for you today about electronics recycling, after all, in spite of the economy, many people will have things to recycle and some have been holding on them for years. I found some info on it, that is my good today, but I am saving that for another day, because I need you today, not your money, not your sympathy, just your comment.

Recycling is a good thing, it will keep poisons out of our system, it allows reuse of discarded items, it allows us to feel good. But right now, a lot of people are out of work, for some it came as an utter surprise.

***If you can, please give to your local food bank. If you can’t, (or just want several of us to spend more of our money), please comment here, just a hello would do. For, you see, Leon and I are donating a can of food to our local food bank in South Florida for every comment. This is above what we had already set aside to donate. I got the idea from Shelly at This Eclectic Life, and guess what?!

Shelly is going to donate, in Texas, a can for my comments received yesterday and today and I am going to donate a can for all her many comments received over the week — AND our non blogging son and daughter-in-law, also in Florida, are coughing up a can for every comment on my blog AND Shelly’s blog.

It only takes a minute, even if you are not a blogger, just click on the comments below. Then rush over to Shelly, click here for her Only the Good Friday post to comment there. Guess what, she has two other non-bloggers offering to donate a can each for each of her comments, so that is a lot of cans from one click here and one there.

Then if you are really feeling generous with your minute here and there, she has links here to a group of Vancouver photographers doing the same, actually they started the whole thing, we are copying.

Yes, we are using you as an excuse to give more, but it still comes from the heart — and if you think about it, it gives those of us who have a bit of room to spend this year a chance to allow those of you who don’t have the means to to give to give vicariously…. it still feels good!

Now, comment, darn it, it costs you nothing! Send the link to someone you know without a blog, let them comment, too. Make us dig so deep in our pockets we wonder, “What on earth were we thinking, offering to spend so much money?” Would it not be cool if you guys caused us to spend more than we had? Why, that would mean I wouldn’t have to get on that plane next summer for my first ever trip to a reunion. You know I hate planes.

There is a movement this holiday season, that makes it easy for you to give to those who need. Bloggers are offering to donate a can of food to their local food banks for every comment they get. Shelly’s comments need to be made between now and tomorrow. Please, comment, there, and she has links to other bloggers who are doing it as well. There are quite a few now. I’m going to spend as much time commenting on their blogs as I can.

Also, if you comment here, I will add cans to the money donation we were already giving this coming week to Food Banks here. PLUS, for every can Shelly donates from comments, I am going to donate that many more to our Food Banks because: She started this sooner and has more readers, so it allows me more reasons to donate!
