We watched the movie, Swing Vote, tonight. What went through my mind as Bud walked in to cast his tie breaking vote in the presidential race? Not what the writer intended, I would bet.

I was solely focused on the fact he had been denied his right to a secret ballot – by everyone involved.

That, to me, was a scary thought. I remembered that the way our voting was set up in the presidential election last year, people were standing so close behind us (waiting to vote), those with good eyesight could most likely have read some of our choices – had they wanted to. I had nothing to hide, but some are not as comfortable – and have the right not to be.

And then I found this October 2008 article about Hurdles for Voting when Disabled….

Just food for thought for the future…. Steps forward, however small are steps forward… but sometimes I’m in a hurry to get that step in.

Americans, please vote tomorrow, if you can.

Business owners, please, allow your employees to vote. It will most likely be hard on your business (but most have some hard days); it will most likely be hard on your customers, but if you have treated them as if they are important to you in the past – they will understand.

If they don’t, your business, your other customers will be better off without their negative energy!

But, in our frenzy to gather voters, don’t be too quick to judge those that don’t. It is their right not to – and second guessing their reasons is as unfair as assuming shorter skirts equate easier morals.
